This international conference honors the poet, essayist, novelist, journalist, artist, and philosopher Etel Adnan (1925-2021). Exploring her life and work across languages, cultures, and exiles spanning a near-century from the aftermath of World War I and the demise of the Ottoman Empire to our own times, this conference brings together academic research with personal testimonies and cultural practices. It is accompanied by an exhibition of Adnan’s private papers, which she generously gifted to AUB, curated by Sonja Mejcher-Atassi in collaboration with AUB Libraries.
Organized by Sonja Mejcher-Atassi, Simone Fattal, and Fawwaz Traboulsi with the support of AUB’s Center for American Studies and Research, the Sheikh Zayed Chair for Arabic and Islamic Studies, and the Department of English.
